Individual/Family Counseling & Psychological Assessments

About

Professional Staff

Dr. McKenzie Sprowls

My therapeutic approach is grounded in creating a safe, collaborative, and non-judgmental space where individuals feel heard and understood. I primarily utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a structured, evidence-based treatment modality that emphasizes the present and empowers clients with practical skills to manage their mental health long after therapy concludes. CBT focuses on identifying and modifying maladaptive thought patterns and behaviors that contribute to emotional distress and dysfunction. The core principle is that our thoughts influence our feelings and behaviors, and by reshaping these cognitive processes, individuals can achieve lasting change. In addition to therapy, I provide comprehensive psychological evaluations. These assessments allow me to evaluate mood, behaviors, cognitive functioning, and other psychological aspects, thereby informing treatment planning and providing insights into the individual's unique challenges and strengths.

The services provided are designed to address a broad spectrum of mental health concerns, including trauma and PTSD, grief, problematic sexual behaviors, education on safe sexual behaviors and consent, ADHD, depression, anxiety, behavioral difficulties, and challenges in managing life stressors. Each therapeutic intervention is individualized to ensure a comprehensive, client-centered approach. The core objective of these services is to foster a supportive, nonjudgmental environment in which individuals can openly explore their challenges. Parent Training

Parent training is a comprehensive, evidence-based program designed to empower parents with effective strategies for managing challenging childhood behaviors, including aggression, defiance, and emotional dysregulation. Through these tailored sessions, parents are guided in setting clear, consistent boundaries, applying discipline with predictability, and reinforcing positive behaviors, all while alleviating the stress commonly associated with parenting. Central to this training is the emphasis on nurturing a positive, supportive parent-child relationship through enhanced communication and emotional attunement. Drawing from established therapeutic frameworks such as Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), this training equips parents with practical, skill-building tools aimed at modifying maladaptive behaviors and fostering healthier, more constructive interactions. By strengthening parenting skills and promoting emotional regulation, the goal is to improve children's behavior not only at home but across other settings, including school and social environments, leading to more adaptive and functional outcomes in all areas of life.

Psychological Assessments

Psychological assessments are an invaluable tool in identifying and understanding the presence and nature of various mental health conditions, including mood disorders, behavioral disorders, anxiety disorders, neurodevelopmental disorders, and personality disorders. These evaluations are comprehensive, typically involving structured interviews, detailed questionnaires, and standardized tests designed to assess multiple facets of an individual's psychological functioning. The resulting insights not only assist in clarifying diagnoses but also inform tailored treatment planning, ensuring that individuals are connected to the most appropriate interventions and accommodations to support their unique needs.
